Sometimes, when we’re too busy, we forget that there is such thing as “HAPPINESS”. Workloads and hectic schedules stress us and before we know it, we’re spiraling down the drain of depression.
Why? Because in life, there should be a balance of everything. You can’t just work, work, work. You also need to slow down a bit and appreciate your surroundings.
I, for example, go to college. There are homeworks to make, research papers to finish, and exams to study for.
Then there’s writing. When I go home I try to write a few pages of my novel. I also need to update my blogs.
For the first and second month, I got so tired of it all. But hey, I realized it’s just a matter of balancing your life. Life is too short to waste, right? These may be common ideas. But I just want to share them with you. ^__^
1. Spend time with your friends– Let’s face it. One of the reasons why we stick with our friends is because they make us happy. Study shows that having close friends helps us fight depression and anxiety. So grab your phone, call your friend, and hang out together!
2. Laugh- Laugh like there’s no tomorrow! It reduces stress hormones level and keeps depression at bay by boosting the production of serotonin, a natural anti-depressant.
3. Experiment- Do something out of the ordinary. Allow yourself to be crazy sometimes! Dance in the rain, take a picture of you doing funny poses, chase a butterfly, and eat exotic foods!
4. Learn to appreciate art and beauty- Read a good book, draw or paint, make a scrapbook, watch interesting movies!
5. Smell the flowers- Sometimes, the smallest things in life give us more happiness than anything else. Look around you. Give Mother Nature the attention she deserves. Listen to the soft humming of the breeze, take picture of the birds... smell the flowers!
6. Banish negative thoughts- Did you know? Depression is due to negative view of your self, your surrounding, and your future. So why waste your time thinking about negative things when you can choose to be positive and optimistic? Learn how to be contented and be thankful.
7. Love people- Look for the good things, not the bad. What I learned in writing novels is that each character is important. Even an antagonist has a reason why he do certain things. Remember, we’re all unique. Don’t expect everyone to act like you.
8. Talk to God- Set a time each day to meditate and talk to our Maker. It will help focus your mind and you will be assured that everything’s gonna be alright. After all, there’s no impossible with God!
